Before model selection, we should be well aware what function needed, how to install, what protection measures needed and which kinds of market products belong to.

Look at pressure sensor, for example.

1. Pressure sensor is used to measure the pressure of the medium. First of all, we need to consider what kind of media: gas, liquid, etc. Different media directly linked to the different types of sensor you choose.

2. Usually pressure sensor output is a voltage signal and current signal. Voltage output has chip level and pressure transmitter (trivial name). The latter is second development on the basis of the former with more circuit protection and adjustment. But the cost will be higher. Current output is pressure transmitter. Chip level of pressure sensor has no V/I conversion circuit. So the output is voltage output.

3. Installation. If you want to put the sensor installed on the circuit board, then you should choose chip level of pressure sensor for convenient installation. However the transmitter will give you install trouble. Generally the sensor installed on circuit boards in the applications ...
... which are not very demanding, like instruments, medical equipment, consumer products. At the same time, it reduces the cost. If you hope sensors installed in other places, such as on the sensor shell, pressure transmitter is relatively better but the cost is higher. If you can’t afford the cost, you can also use chip class pressure sensor in the installation flexibility.

4. Depending on the kinds of output, voltage output chip class pressure sensor has three categories: non compensation, temperature compensation and temperature compensation with amplifier. The output of first two are millivolt voltage signal output, the other is 5 v or 3 v or so full scale output depending on the user power you chosen. These three kinds of pressure sensors belong to low cost pressure sensor.

5. Pressure transmitter commonly have voltage output and current output. Generally speaking, if sensor is far from controller in the application field, current output is better. It can reduce interference. Voltage output is relatively common and the cost may be lower.
