The youth of today face innumerable challenges from their surroundings in many different manifestations. These challenges can have a misleading effect on some of the more vulnerable youngsters who tend to get sidelined because of their interaction with the world and the internal changes that they are going through during their tender teenage years. As a result they may develop a deviant attitude which puts them at risk as well as others around them.

Although it is normal to expect a certain level of deviancy and rebellious behavior from teenagers as they began to discover their own potentials during the teens it is also important to make sure they don't cross over that line that puts them at risk. Many times it is the overlooking and neglect that teenagers are shown that escalates their problems to the extent that they get out of hand.

The aims and objectives of the program

Such programs are geared at inculcating the importance that maintaining moral principles has on an individual's life. The youth is made to realize through an all natural process the importance of doing what is right for the right reasons.

As it is a growing child passes through a series of stages of moral development. These stages are consecutive and their order is pretty much predetermined by nature. It is only a matter of realizing the particular stage at which the troubled youth is and then working the way forward with him. In this way the youth at risk is actually given all the moral and physical support that will help him to advance to the next level.

This gradual progression will slowly develop in the troubled youth the qualities that will enable him to deal with the world in a more mature manner. As he keeps progressing to the next level of moral development he will find it easier to drop his old bad habits whether they were in the form of bad behavior, substance abuse or any other manifestation.

Working out a way to get the troubled teen out from the tangles that he is twisted in is not an easy job. This is why there are trained educationalists and psychologists who formulate these at risk youth programs. The key to making such a program successful is to maintain the balance between what the programs has to offer to the child and what it demands in return.

In fact this is the very lesson of life which the youth is made to realize in the broadest sense through the schools for troubled boys . The youth is given opportunity in the form of recreational activities and kind treatment. In return however he is expected to show cooperation, discipline and responsibility.
