Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - First Of Its Kind

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile to run on Windows Mobile OS and the first one in the X-Series. The construction and build of the phone is very solid and impressive.
This phone weighs around 150 grams, some may feel that it is a little on the heavy side but it is very reasonable when considering the features it offers. Actually, this phone was planned to be released a year ago in the 4th quarter of 2007 or early 2008 but was extremely delayed. The reason for sure a long delay was due to the fact that this phone has some innovative and new features hence they had some real challenges. Anyway the phone is worth the delay and thousands of eyes looking at it eagerly.
The main buttons on the front panel have X theme. 4 buttons are laid out on either side in an inverted diamond fashion. Between the two X themed set of buttons is the touch mouse, it is great for scrolling quickly and is surrounded by the typical D-Pad. A cool feature of Xperia X1 is the 4 independent notification lights that are placed on four corners of X1.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mobile has a slide out full QWERTY physical ...
... keyboard which looks pretty good. The keys are well separated from each other and are quite a comfortable size hence reducing the amount of incorrect key presses.
The innovative part of the Xperia X1 are the panels displayed on the large touch screen. These panels are actually the replacement for the Windows home screen. Choose a panel and it will fill your screen replacing your home screen but it does give you the option of the windows mobile home screen as it's also one of the panels available for selection. Sony Ericsson allows developers to create panels enabling you to download new panels of your choice, which is a great feature for all those who like to give their mobile phone a personal touch.
An interesting face is HTC supported Sony Ericsson in the hardware design of Xperia X1 so you may clearly see the HTC accents throughout the phone. Side by side comparison of the specification of Xperia X1 with HTC Touch Pro have a remarkable resemblance, you could say almost the same. The only major difference is the screen resolution. The Xperia X1 offers very high resolution of 800 x 480 and which the HTC Touch Pro does not quite meet this high standard but now the HTC Touch HD is the real challenge for the Xperia X1 as it overcomes the short fall of its predecessor. If Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones had released Xperia X1 sometime earlier this year then they could have shown this high resolution as an advantage over Touch Pro and could have made a bigger impact in the market; now they are in competition with Touch HD, which offers the same resolution with same 65 K colours support this has reduced the wow factor of such a great feature.
While we are on the subject of the Xperia's high quality screen here is another quick fact you might find interesting.
Microsoft should upgrade their mobile OS software regarding the number of colours supported. Since at present most of the phones running on some other OS, supports up to 16 million colours but Microsoft still supports only 65 thousand colours and they have some good excuse for that but it's not acceptable in these days of advanced hardware capabilities. If they fail to revise then Android OS may take the place of Windows Mobile OS in future.
Though Xperia X1 is in competition with Touch HD and it looks somewhat better than Xperia X1 the Xperia X1 has some real advantages over Touch HD in multimedia capability and camera quality (Read the article on HTC Touch HD to learn more).
Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 offers a very high quality music player as well as providing good support for various video formats making it an excellent multimedia phone. It has a 3.2 megapixels camera with LED flash; the image quality is excellent, in fact it looks better than the image taken by Touch HD's 5 megapixel camera. Considering that Sony Ericsson borrowed hardware technology from HTC they are far better than others as far as music and camera are concerned.
The Xperia X1 has all the required boost to be a Smartphone. Sony Ericsson has created their first windows Phone with some innovative ideas and technology mixed with their traditional quality. This combination can bring great success for this phone and good fortune for Sony Ericsson.
