Gyrotron Industrial Drying Process
A new industrial drying process has been developed by Gyrotron Technology Inc. that is significantly more efficient and productive than any common existing drying processes using hot gas, electric resistances, or industrial microwave. The developed industrial drying process is based on using the gyrotron beam that possesses unique properties and allows incredible results.
The gyrotron generates a microwave beam from a few KW up to one megawatt power. By simple metal mirrors the beam can be focused, spread over a surface, directed — all with superior heat density where it’s focused and no heat where it’s not. Unique selective heating of one material or layer while leaving others cool, focusing energy only where needed, and heating one layer or material through an adjoining layer lead to advanced product formulations. Significant reduction in capital and operating costs, as well as increased product quality, are standard outputs of this type of heating.
The heating rate of water and other liquids by the gyrotron beam is hundreds degrees per second. The heating can be localized and temperature can be controlled ...
... with a high accuracy, up to 1.5%. This, a state of the art process, has very wide areas of heating/drying applications. Below are some examples.
Drying porous materials.
Drying such materials require long expensive tunnel furnaces because the heating of the penetrated inside moisture occurs by heat being moved from the surface by thermal conductivity. By using our industrial drying process the beam can be focused deep inside and heating is provided from inside to the surface with high heating rate. There is no need for long furnaces.
Curing.
The process allows for drying solvents and curing polymers with a much higher efficiency and productivity than in conventional ways. For this purpose the beam is focused within the product boundaries. Due to high energy density and the ability to heat rapidly, significantly shorter drying lines are need for production prepregs, plastic sheets, and similar products.
Drying flat products. Product such as sheetrock, ceiling tiles, paper, and others are produced by continuously drying materials on a high speed conveyer. A significant percentage of ready products usually still have wet spots because of non uniform heating. This reduces the product quality and creates many storage and sipping(?) problems. To dry these spots the entire product needs to be dried again on a conveyor which increases production costs. By using a new drying process these spots can be exclusively and instantly dried on the conveyer end saving energy, labor, and waste.
Drying ink and paints.
The new industrial drying process dries ink and most kinds of paint with the speed of painting. This significantly increases final productivity, reduces costs, and increases quality. In some cases the sprayed paints can be dried at the moment it reaches the surface that is being painted. There is no need for long drying in tunnel furnaces.
Drying flammable liquids.
The gyrotron industrial drying process allows safe drying of liquids such as petroleum, acetone, alcohol, and other similar liquids or solvents. Because air is absolutely transparent for the gyrotron beam it can be used to remove and dissolve the flammable evaporation during the drying to prevent any undesirable events. Our new industrial drying process opens up new possibilities for replacing water as a solvent with other liquids that require much less energy for evaporation.
