About Puducherry
Puducherry, known as Pondicherry earlier, is a Union Territory located in southern part of India. It consists of 4 districts:Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe. The Union Territory has been named after the largest district, Puducherry, which is also the capital. Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and French are the main languages spoken in Puducherry. These four places were former French colonies and were annexed with the Government of India during the States Reorganization Act.

How to Reach

Air: The Puducherry airport is not fully functional and is being expanded now. However, there are no commercial carriers plying to or from Pondicherry. The nearest International airport is at Chennai, which is connected effectively with all major cities in the world.
Rail: There is just one railway line in Puducherrythat is connected by the 5-way junction at Villupuram. There are trains to Bangalore and Chennai from Puducherry.
Road: Roads are the best way to travel within Puducherry. The road infrastructure here is on par with the roads in other metros in the country. The National Highways and the State Highways ensure that Puducherry is well connected to the rest of the country efficiently. The rural roads are also extensive and cover all remote villages in the union territory.
