Benefits Of Colocation Hosting Plans
When it comes to web hosting, many website owners choose to simply rent a server from a web host in exchange for a monthly or yearly fee. However, there are many that also choose to own their server outright and pay a large initial fee instead of those smaller fees that can add up over time. When this is the case, the website owner then has two choices: host the server themselves at home, or use a colocation web host that will store (and often maintain) the server for them.
But isn’t one of the benefits of owning a server that you actually have it, as well as full control over it? Maybe. But there are also lots of benefits that colocation services have to offer. And if you don’t take advantage of them, you might not be able to run your server at all.
The Internet connection that is offered by colocation services is far greater and far faster than anything your home, or even your business, Internet connection could provide. These facilities only have web servers that need specific web connections, and that will make a huge difference in how fast your website loads for visitors; and how quickly you’ll be ...
... able to make changes to it. If your Internet connection isn’t fast enough, the server could actually time out and your website won’t be running during that time at all.
Another consideration when hosting your own server at home is how much power it will require; and how much you have to give it. Again, the chances are good that your current power supply isn’t enough to run your server and everything you need to have running in your home or office. Colocation data centers on the other hand, have enough power to boost hundreds of web servers as well as surge protectors, backup power sources, and generators. This is a setup that many just don’t have in their home or office but if you don’t, you could be putting your server at great risk.
A cooling element will also be needed to keep your server in top running condition, and this is also something that colocation facilities can offer. A server is a very powerful machine that must be kept running 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. Being on that much and constantly working can damage a machine and cause it to overheat. If that happens, it could render your server completely useless. Colocation centers have many different cooling measures in place to ensure that the machines are always kept at optimal temperatures and that they always deliver peak performance.
Housing your web server in a colocation facility will be more expensive than keeping it in your home or office and hosting it yourself. It’s for this reason that many people choose to do so. But, this could have serious consequences for your server and your website and could actually cost you more in the long run. When you own your own server, choose a colocation facility that will bring many benefits simply by taking care of it for you.
