Honda Cr-v The Reliable Suv
Honda CR-V the Reliable SUV
The Honda CR-V doesn’t have the same appeal as a BMW X3 or Audi Q5, but the latest CR-V built in Swindon certainly makes up for that by being very well built and solidly engineered. It is a large SUV but still it drives very well especially if you go for the powerful 2.2-litre diesel model and quick manual gearbox. For the first time the CR-V is available with two-wheel drive. However, the big downfall is that the CR-V still comes as a five-seater rather than offering seven seats. Honda’s CR-V is no different from other SUV’s in the market as it looks like the same, but it should be noted that it is more striking than its predecessor.
Honda’s latest styling, a mix of angular and rounded shapes is used to good effect on the CR-V. It manages to look solid and rough. The interior is also an upgrade both in terms of quality and design. Although the CR-V is a large and tall car but it drives well and offer a comfortable ride. The 2.2-litre diesel gives a useful push, but is quiet on motorway. The 2.0-litre engine is also quiet and refined. Try not to go the five speed auto option ...
... as if feels outdated and lazy compared to the quick manual. The power steering is all electric but it feels lifeless.
Honda’s CR-V comes equipped with safety kit, which also includes an advanced stability control system. It also included Honda’s Collision Mitigation Braking System. This system monitors the distance of the CR-V for impact with the car in front and on sensing the collision it brakes automatically. It also has a high seating position which gives a great view of the road. Honda is the reliability champion and the new CR-V should carry on with this tradition as it is solidly built and engineered. It has enlarged windows which give the driver a commanding view of the road.
These large windows also help the visibility. The boot is bigger and there is plenty of storage in the cabin as well. The CR-V can now be had in two-wheel drive but that is only available with the petrol engine till 2013, when a new 1.6litre diesel engine will join the range. The best option for now, is the 2.2-litre diesel as it offers good performance and is economical (manages almsot 50mpg) and eco friendly. Top-spec EX variant is the biggest seller as it comes with 18-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, sat-nav, xenon lights, parking camera, climate control, leather upholstery and a DAB radio as standard.
