Nissan Pathfinder Is On The Right Path
Nissan Pathfinder Is On The Right Path
The Nissan Pathfinder is built for one purpose, to be as strong, practical and reliable as possible. Its huge cabin, desirable reliability record and fabulous off-road ability certainly help it to achieve all those aims. One downfall it does have is that it doesn’t feel that comfortable on the road. Pathfinder’s ride is uncomfortable compared to more luxurious 4x4s, the engine is stern and it feels very heavy to steer around corners. None of these matter if you’re looking for a simple and reliable workhorse. The Nissan Pathfinder has a simple boxy design and it doesn’t try to be too stylish still it is not an ugly car. One thing that the Pathfinder can’t hide is just how big it is, and this shows on the inside as well. It’s Nissan so it feels well built and everything is functional.
The Pathfinder currently only comes in a 2.5-litre four cylinder engine, which doesn’t seem big enough to power a big car like this, but it does quite a good job. It churns out 187bhp and can get the Pathfinder from 0-62mph in 11seconds with the manual gearbox and 10.7 seconds with ...
... the automatic gearbox. The manual gearbox is difficult to use. The ride soaks up huge holes in the road, but it feels too stocky hence it struggles to give a comfortable ride. The handling doesn’t fare well with heavy steering and reasonable body roll.
The Nissan Pathfinder got just four stars for Euro NCAP safety test. It sounds bad when you consider that most vehicles achieve the full score, but then a lot of SUV don’t achieve this five star rating. Driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags along with ESP+, which consists of ABS, traction control and electronic stability program, comes as standard all across the range. Pathfinder can withstand a lot of off roading as it is a reliable car.
The Pathfinder has some serious van-like practicality. All models across the board come with seven-seats and a 190-litre boot but with the rear seats folded the boot capacity increased to 515 litres. If you fold all the seats the boot capacity is a massive 2,091 litres. There’s a split tailgate too which means you don’t have to open the whole boot. The Pathfinder is a bulky car, which is shown in its economical figures. The manual gearbox model is the best with 33.2mpg, while the automatic gives out just 31.4mpg. The emissions are high too, for the automatic gearbox which puts it in the second highest road tax bracket.
