Andaman and Nicobar Islands is located on the Indian Ocean close to Burma (190 km from the northern tip) and Indonesia (150 km from the southern tip). It is surrounded by the Andaman Sea in the east and Bay of Bengal in the west. Port Blair is located 1,190 km from Chennai, 1,200 km from Vishakhapatnam and 1,255 km from Kolkata.

Major Cities
Port Blair and Diglipur are two famous cities in the island, the former being the capital city. Port Blair, the only entry/exit for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is a laid back city located in the Andaman Island group. Diglipur is a city in the far north of the islands and the entry base to the Smith and Ross Islands that’s located nearby. Rangat is another city that serves mainly as the base to ferry to Havelock and Neil Islands.
Places to Visit
Rutland Island, a pristine island that houses coral reefs and mangrove forests; Havelock Island, for scuba diving and snorkeling; Baratang Island, for the back waters, limestone caves and mud volcano; Neil Island, a calm non-commercial island; Barren Island, the island that houses the only volcano in India; Long Island, a deserted island perfect for Robinson Crusoe style camping, Little Andaman, and Jarwa Reserve.
How to Reach
The Veer Savarkar Airport in Port Blair has flights operating to and from major Indian cities like Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. To fly to other international destinations from Port Blair, you can come to Chennai, and from Chennai, head to the respective destination.
There are ships that ply to and from Port Blair to Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and Kolkata and take about 4 days for one way. This would be a different experience if you have not travelled by sea before.
Commute Within the Island
Auto Rickshaws are the most common mode of commute within Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Taxis can be rented from Port Blair to go to nearby places that can be reached by road. Ferries/Cruises are very common to commute between Islands.
