Tucked into the hillside east of Paso Robles, along California’s enchanting Central Coast is Robert Hall Winery, where years of hard work and infinite attention to detail are invested into every bottle of wine they make. As farmers first, the goal is to nurture the land and coax from it the finest fruit possible from the vineyards on the Hall Ranch — each with its own personality and each expressing unique nuances that strive to capture the essence of Paso Robles.

Aromas of blackberries and cherries come together with suggestions of clove and vanilla on the nose. A sip reveals flavors of cherry, blueberry, and plum that are accented by notes of chocolate and oak. A smooth wine, with plush tannins, fans of elegantly styled reds will enjoy this bottle.

Rorbert Hall 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon

Grape(s): 85% Cabernet, 15% Merlot

Review:

Aromatics of currants and ...
... blackberries mingle with notes of leather, dark chocolate, and cedar on the nose. The palate delivers flavors of blackberry and currants that unfold into suggestions of cocoa, pepper, and dusty earth. A fairly lively Cab, with supple tannins, fan of dry, dark reds should give this bottle a try.

Rorbert Hall 2009 Merlot

Grape(s): 79% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Sirah, 1% Cabernet

Region: Paso Robles

Price: 15-20

Review:

A bouquet of blackberries, bing cherry, leather, and earth greets the senses. Flavors of black and red berries meld with suggestions of earth, smokey cedar, and game on the palate. A fairly hearty Merlot, with plush tannins, if like Merlot but are not a fan of “fruit-bombs,” this is a bottle you might try.
