Madhya Pradesh is a state in central India which is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. The state of Madhya Pradesh was formed on November 1, 1956 and later it was branched out to form a new state of Chhattisgarh. It is the second largest state when comes to area and sixth largest state when we talk about population.

The state has 48 districts and some of the important cities are Bhopal, Chambal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, and Ujjain. Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh has always been a very important tourist destination because of places such as Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, and National Parks like Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park, Panna National Park and Pench National Park.
The climate of Madhya Pradesh resembles that of North India which means summers are hot and dry, followed by July and September when it experiences monsoon rains and the winters are quite cool. There are many palaces, forts and museums in all the cities of this state like Gwalior, Indore, and Mandu. Madhya Pradesh has various important pilgrimage centers like Ujjain and Omkareshwar which hold great importance due to the presence of the two out of the twelve jyotirlingas.
The Local People and Culture
Madhya Pradesh is one Indian state which has a significant tribal population. Many of the tribal traditions in the state are still lively and strong. The state has a strong culture and it holds a special position in the history of music. The Gwalior Gharana is one of the most prominent forms of classical music. Madhya Pradesh is also known for its rich tribal culture. The bison-horn dance performed by the Muria tribe is a wonderful rendition of nature's mating season.
Getting There
Madhya Pradesh is well connected by rail, road and air. This state has 20 major railway junctions and five domestic airports locate in Jabalpur, Gwalior, Bhopal, Khajuraho and Indore. More than 2000 buses run every day from Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur.
