Anyone who manages a golf course will realise that a big part of the work involves golf course maintenance. To be a golf course that people like to come and play on and for competitions to be held on, the green and surrounding areas all have to be kept in top condition with watering, fertilizing, mowing and inspections on a regular basis.

Grass is not a static plant. To be healthy it must grow well; but to be suitable for playing golf on it must be short and this requires a great deal of attention. Firstly, to make sure the grass is healthy and secondly, to ensure it is kept at the right height. And of course it must be inspected so that any weedy growths can be dealt with before they go to seed and become a major problem.

Most weed seeds are airborne while some are dropped by passing birds. If the grass is kept healthy and thick, weeds will not usually be able to take root. However, sometimes they do get a roothold and must be pulled out or poisoned. Very often the weather is not kind to golf courses and so the amount of water must be measured carefully to ensure there is enough for optimum ...
... growth.

Pasture toppers are ideal for mowing the grass on a golf course. It is essential that the grass is cut off cleanly rather than chopped, otherwise bruising will cause the re-growth to come in at different heights and stages and the whole course will develop a ragged look. In addition, the mower used should offer a wide cut so that the job can be done more quickly. When golfers are out on the course all day long, there is not much time left for cutting.

Of course, for the rough you might use one of the many slashers that are available, since it is not so essential to have a completely smooth surface there. Again, getting the job done quickly is necessary so that golfers can play when they need to. It is therefore a good idea to get a slasher that will do a wide cut and finish the job off quickly.

You also need one that will follow the undulations of the golf course properly, so twin decks will be an advantage. If you also have a side shift system it will be much easier to work around anything such as posts or drains.
