There is no denying that the internet plays a large part in the lives we live today. So much so that it now plays a huge part in marketing. Before, brand owners and businessmen use traditional means to promote a product and to create awareness. Some of these traditional strategies include print and television advertising, cold calling, and direct mailing. These methods are still employed today. However, many marketing experts say that these techniques are no longer as effective as they were years before. To add salt to the wound, these tactics are now too costly for the average brand owner.
Hence the conception of consumer email lists and other Internet-based marketing strategies. The use of consumer email lists and its effectiveness of email marketing are signs that the Internet has helped shift the power in more ways than one. For the use of email marketing, entrepreneurs with limited funds can still promote their goods. This means the power and the advantage are no longer with bigger brands who can employ more expensive marketing tools.

According to studies, more than half of the online population checks their email accounts everyday. This makes consumer mailing lists an important marketing tool. However, perhaps the most notable reason lies on how people view marketing strategies today. People see the likes of television advertising and direct mailing efforts as impersonal attempts to create awareness and change one's preference. Even marketing experts say traditional attempts are comparable to a shout. Internet-based marketing strategies, on the other hand, are said to be more effective in conversing with potential clients.
The use of a consumer email list is not as conducive for conversation with potential customers, if compared with other online marketing tactics. However, when the consumer mail lists are used properly, it gives the people essential information, something traditional marketing has failed to do. The use of consumer mail lists are not without flaws, but they remain to be effective tools at are at par with the new trends of today.
