How Christian Counsellors Get Their Training

There are few people who would not benefit from some kind of counselling during their life. No one’s life is perfect and often we make decisions that have a negative impact that we had not foreseen and so trouble looms large on the horizon. Sometimes we are at our wit’s end in working out how to cope with all the problems that life seems to throw at us. Christian counsellors can often help with many different kinds of problems in life.
In fact, for those who are looking for a satisfying career in helping others, counselling might be just the thing. Not only will you be able to help others, but you can use what you learn in many areas of life, from chatting with your kids and their friends to going for a coffee with a friend who needs some support. In addition, there are many other kinds of careers where counselling skills would come in handy.
Many charitable organisations offer family counselling services, but just because they do not charge their clients does not mean they don’t pay their counsellors. It is quite possible to get work in counselling with such organisations and even at ...
... places such as universities and government organisations that help people such as immigrants settle into their new country.
Naturally, courses through college or university do cost money, but if you don’t have the finances to pay, you can usually get help from the government. This is called Vocational Education and Training (VET) help and is a loan from the government that is paid directly to your college for the fees – or some of the fees - they would charge you. You then repay the loan after you have finished your study and have become employed.
You must be earning a certain amount - something in the vicinity of $47,000 per year - before you have to repay the loan. When your course is government approved for such a loan it takes all the worry out of working out your budget. You then only have to pay for your own accommodation and food while you are studying.
So if you are looking for Christian counselling courses, it is wise to also find out if they are VET approved before you sign up. Having training in such an area will not only make you more employable as your skills increase, but it offers you the chance to set up a counselling business of your own, or in conjunction with your church or another person who has similar training.
