The Software Market Is Full Of Choices For File Recovery. While Many Do A Good Job, Many Are Not Des

Because data loss can be so devastating, people are continually searching for solutions to this problem. The software market is full of choices for file recovery. While many do a good job, many are not designed very well. In fact, a poorly designed recovery program can be downright dangerous, not only to missing files, but also to files that are still intact. Because there are many causes for data loss, and many file formats as well, the computer user must be careful. Choosing the correct software can mean the difference between success and utter disaster.
Most data recovery software is installed to the computer and run from inside the operating system. While this is not necessarily a problem, there are some caveats to be considered. If the software is installed after the data is lost, it could very well overwrite the very data it needs to retrieve. This is possible when the file or files have been accidentally deleted. The space that these files occupy has been marked as available and the program could install in that location.
If data loss ...
... is the result of hard drive issues or operating system corruption, additional challenges present themselves. For example, if the user panics and tries to repair the OS or hard diskfirst, data recovery may not be possible. Many repairs entail a complete reformatting of the drive, removing all data store on it. Data recovery must always proceeddrive recovery to ensure success.
A lot of software in the marketplace concentrates on drive repair first, then data recovery. Furthermore, when a drive will not mount or boot, installed software cannot operate. Therefore, the computer owner needs a program that stresses recovery over repair and has the ability to run separately from the OS. Forexecuting a Mac OS X file recovery on a non-bootable drive, the recovery program must include an emergency boot disk. This disk is able to run the computer without the native operating system.
This is accomplished through an operating system installed on the CD or DVD, usually a Linux-based OS. The emergency boot disk is placed in the computer’s optical drive and the Mac is rebooted or started up. As the machine begins to start, it boots via the emergency disks OS. The recovery program also runs from this disk and is able to access the data on unmounted, unbootable drives.
A properly designed program will be able to find lost or deleted files in many formats and give the user the option to recover them. The best programs will not allow the files to be saved back on the same hard drive.
