Karnataka is a state in Southwest India which has a rich historical past. Formed on 1 November 1956 from parts of the erstwhile princely states of Mysore, Madras, Hyderabad and Travancore, Karnataka is the eighth largest state in India in terms of area and the ninth largest in terms of population

Karnataka is one of the 4 south Indian states .It shares its borders with the states of Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The state has a long coastline along the Arabian Sea. The state has 30 districts and 3 distinct geographical zones: the Karavalli coast, the hilly Malenaadu and the Bayaluseeme plateau in the interior.

The capital of Karnataka is the IT capital of India, Bangalore. Karnataka has a rich linguistic heritage with Kannada, Tulu, Kodava and Konkani being spoken in different parts of the state. The state is well irrigated by its major river systems viz the Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery, Malaprabha and Tungabhadra. One fifth of the state has a rich forest cover which supports 25 per cent of the elephant and 10 per cent of the tiger population ...

Karnataka –Culture
Karnataka’s culture is an amalgam of over 6 historical dynasties which ruled over the state. A number of stalwarts in Carnatic and Hindustani music trace their origins to Karnataka. This state has produced the largest number of litterateurs to win the Jnanpith award. The Kananda film industry, popularly known as Sandalwood is a thriving one. Yakshagaana is the traditional dance-drama form originating in the Malenaadu region of Karnataka. The Mysore school of Bharatnatyam is a variant on the more traditional school of Bharatnatyam.
The cultural influences are marked in the cuisine which differs from district to district. The Karavalli coast has a rich seafood tradition while the Udupi area spawned the Udupi food culture. The Bayaluseeme plateau regions display influences of Deccani cuisine.

Karnataka has a wide variety of verdant hill stations to lure the traveler-Madikeri, Kudremukh and Chikmagalur being the more popular among them. The Agumbe, Bandipur, Nagarahole and Ranganathittu Sanctuaries attract Nature lovers, while the beaches of Malpe, Ullal and Someshwara are unspoilt spots of incredible beauty.
