Jharkhand is a state in Eastern India which is decade old. It was formed on 15 November 2000 from parts of the state of Bihar. The word Jharkhand means “land of forests” and gives an indication of the topography of this state.
Where is Jharkhand?
Jharkhand is one of the Eastern Indian states .It shares a common border with the states of Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Chattisgarh. The state has a rich forest cover and has a large population of tribals.
About Jharkhand
The capital of Jharkhand is Ranchi. It is a land with rich mineral wealth. Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribagh are its major industrial centres. The state has 24 districts and d has a rich tribal heritage with the Santhals being the predominant among 32 tribes. Hindi, Santhali, Bangla and the Munda dialects are spoken in different parts of the state. The state has coal and iron mines in the Chota Nagpur plateau region .The major rivers ...

Jharkhand –Culture and People
Jharkhand’s culture is an amalgam of over the 32 tribes of the state. Although Hinduism is the predominant religion, the tribals worship Nature as the Mother Goddess. The Santhals and Gonds are experts at bamboo crafts and weave colorful shawls. Honey, lac and other forest produce are an alternate source of income for the tribals. Mining and associated industries support the majority of the population in Jharkhand. Lately, because of the tax holidays and cheap labour, other manufacturing industries have also moved in to Jharkhand. Jharkhand is famous for the metalwork and basketwork done by its tribals.
The more famous dances viz Nachni, Jadur and Natua and musical instruments like Pratkali and Janani are unique to the region and are organized during tribal festivals.
Jharkhand – Tourism
Jharkhand has a wide variety of verdant National parks at Dalma, Betla,Topchanchi and Palamau. Deogarh hosts a large complex of temples.Giridih has emerged as a leading centre for adventure tourism activities like parasailing and rappelling. The Stone Age tools unearthed at Hazaribagh and the Sati Cave paintings attract students of natural history

Jharkhand: Getting There
Ranchi is well connected by rail, road and air to the major cities in India. Jamshedpur, Sindri, Dhanbad and Bokaro are well connected by rail. The hilly terrain makes it difficult for rail connectivity though roads connect the bigger towns.
