All New Toyota Yaris

The Toyota Yaris made its debut in 1999 as a spacious , practical and cute as a button supermini. The latest all new model has been launched in late 2011 and is more spacious and efficient than the car it has replace. It is offered in 5 or three door versions and has four trim levels. The entry level variants come with a minimal kit, however the mid-priced TR trim level gets a decent amount of kit like 15 inch alloy wheels, 6.1 touch screen sat nav, rear camera and air conditioner. The price difference between the entry level five door Yaris and the hybrid version is just £600 and gives the average of 81mpg and 79g/km.

The new Yaris is longer and has a lower roof line than its predecessor which gives it a sporty stance. It surely is stylish but far from the head turning look. The front end supports the familiar Verso S style and the rear end is inspired by the Auris. Though the cabin has some clever touches but the material used are not of high quality. The Sporty SR version is equipped with a spoiler and a sports suspension, while T Spirit trim level enjoys automatic wipers and lights, dual ...
... zone air conditioning, keyless entry, push start/stop and a panoramic roof.

The engine options include a 1.4litre D 4D diesel with 89bhp, the two petrol’s include a 69bhp 1.0litre and a 99bhp 1.3litre with four cylinders while the hybrid model is powered by a 1.5litre petrol mated with an electric motor which is more compact than the Auris or Prius hybrid. The Yaris is at its best around town thanks to its light controls. On motorways the drive is not as comfortable as VW Polo and less engaging than the Ford Fiesta, plus there is lots of wind noise. The Toyota Yaris has managed to score full five out of five stars in Euro NCAP crash test rating. Seven airbags, Anti Lock Braking System, electronic stability control and traction control and brake assist come as standard safety kit.

While it is too early to say something about the new Yaris, Toyota is well known for its reliability and the engines are already tried and tested in other models. Toyota also offers five years/100,000 miles warranty for buyers’ extra peace of mind. The longer length has resulted in the a spacious cabin and bigger boot. The boot space has now grown to 286 litres which is more than rivaling Volkswagen Polo. On folding the seats flat the boot space is increased to 768 litres. The rear passengers enjoy plenty of leg and head room. The cabin supports some cabby bins for extra storage. However, blind spots are caused by the racked A pillars. The best average is returned by the hybrid version at 81mpg and 79g/km which makes it free to tax which is good but can’t beat the Kia Rio 1.1D which does 88mpg.
