Audi A6 was the replacement of Audi 100 from the late sixties. It was launched in 1994 and has never been the best in its class. Neither the drive was engaging nor was it comfortable compared to its other rivals like BMW 5series, Mercedes E Class and Jaguar XF. But the new A6-which is fourth generation of A6- has changed it all and ticks all the boxes. It can now be ranked as the best executive saloon available. The standard suspension has a firm but comfortable drive, air suspension is also available as an option but there is no point spending money on it. The engine options are a 3.0 litre with 201bhp which is front wheel driven and a four wheel driven 242bhp and a 175bhp 2.0 litre in diesels. The only petrol engine is a 296bhp 3.0 litre V6. The best option is the 2.0 litre diesel which takes most of the share in sales. It is smooth in all conditions but shows its true relaxing nature on the motorway journeys. The Audi A6 is awarded with a maximum five star Euro NCAP crash test rating. Six airbags, electronic stability control and traction control are the standard feature of the A6 line up.

The optional kit includes adaptive cruise control, motorway lane assistance and a blind spot system. Audi cars are famous for their reliability and there is no reason to believe that the new A6 will be any different. The new A6 is longer and wider than the car it has replaced resulting in more space in the back. It allows extra head and legroom for even tall passengers. It boasts 530 litres of boot space which is more than BMW 5 series, it rockets to the 995 litres on folding the rear seats. The 2.0 TDI accounts for most of the sales due to the best power and performance balance. It gives 57.6mpg with carbon emissions of 129g/km which is far ahead of the Jaguar XF 2.2D’s 52mpg with 149g/km of CO2. The standard kit offered in Audi 6 is better than any other in the class. The running costs are low thanks to the service packages offered and strong residual values.
