Michigan Driving Tips:
If your a long-time Michigander then you surely know that driving in the winter in Michigan is a practiced art. There are quite a few hazards that may make this winter even more dangerous for Michigan drivers. With the economy strugling like it is (especially here in Michigan) we are seeing the roads being neglected and more dangerous hazards such as potholes, unpaved roads etc... That is why We want to outline a few simple practices to safe driving in Michigan.
1.Start this winter out making sure that your vehicle is ready for winter. I would advize taking your vehicle in to a tire shop and having them check the pressure, as well as rotating your tires. This will achieve a few things; help you get better gas efficiency, help your car get better traction on those icy days, make your tires last longer, and help you to be able to stop in a shorter distance if needed.
2.Make sure that you have all fluids checked. The two most important that come to mind would be the radiator fluid and the windshield wiper fluid. You don't want either to freeze up. If your radiator isn't properly ...
... maintained you could find yourself putting a new engine in the vehicle when it overheats. If you don't have windshield wiper fluid, or it is frozen you could find yourself in an accident when you can't see out the front window.
3.Don't follow too close to the driver in front of you. If he has to stop in a hurry you either won't have the time to react fast enough and will rear end him/her, or when you hit your breaks to avoid him/her you will end up in the ditch(maybe wrapped around a tree).
4.Keep a half tank of gas. This does a couple of things. 1st off if you drive on the highway in Michigan much, then you know that you can be stuck in a traffic jam on any given day. Running out of gas due to improper planning can not only be dangerous to you and your family in the car, but could also cause other vehicles to get in an accident.
We could go on and on with various safety tips for Michigan driving, but this will be a great start!
