Hair transplantation is the latest process introduced in market for the most productive treatment for hair loss and alopecia problem. This treatment method is applicable for both men and women. However the process of hair transplant is done via some methods known for their efficiency and long lasting effect, etc. These methods are called hair implanting techniques. Also known as hair harvesting methods, there are basically two major types of methods for hair transplanting. These two methods are follicular unit extraction method and strip method of hair implanting although since last decade follicular unit extraction method has earned excellent popularity for its efficiency and long lasting effect.
Both of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages and there are several instances where hair implantation method is decided on the combined version of these two techniques. Regardless the implanting method, the extraction process is of great importance for hair restoration surgery means wherefrom the hairs will be extracted matters most for the entire treatment therapy processes.
Follicular Unit Extraction
...
... Follicular Unit Extraction is one of the popular methods of hair transplantation. Hair follicles can be extracted by using a motor operated rotating punch, which looks like a cylindrical cookie cutter. After the follicles are punched out, then the follicles are extracted manually with the help of forceps. The distinct advantage of this process is
• There is no chance of forming a linear scar
• Its offers faster recovery time
• The process allows patients to have shorter hair on their donor area
Strip Harvesting
In this process hair follicles are extracted from a safe donor area. In this process, a strip is removed as an extended fusiform ellipse of scalp by using 10 or 15 no blade with blades positioned in analogous position.
Before the strip removal, the preferred donor area may be penetrated at a deepness of 4-5 mm with disinfected saline tumescence not only to reduce follicle transaction by aligning them more upright position to the skin facade, but also for providing division amidst the follicular bed-base located within the external subcutaneous tissue and the large nerve plexes and blood which provides stability and natural stimulation within the deep subcutaneous tissues.
This process involves more than one sessions and it generates permanent scar for lifetime on the scalp.
In between these two transplantation processes, follicular unit extraction is the most preferred process although there are several instances where both the processes are involved. With the help of these combined processes a patient enjoys natural hair growth as well as the implanted hair will look like natural hair strands.
Other less popular techniques of hair restoration are
1. Punch Grafting method is a hair implanting process where the implanted hair looks like a toothbrush. The process is considered as old dated process now.
2. Single hair graft implanting is used for implanting hair in the critical areas. This process needs fin craftsmanship and implanted hair look natural but it’s not possible to create volume with this process.
3. Mini grafting process involves use of small hair grafts comprising of 2-3 hair strands that are positioned at the back the hairline for providing a steadily growing hair density.
