Why Orangeries And Conservatories Are Great In Winter

When it comes to conservatories or orangeries, we often imagine ourselves relaxing on a fresh summer’s day, with the French doors opened leading onto the patio or garden and a cool refreshing drink in hand. Of course, this is one of the biggest attractions to adding a conservatory or orangery to your home. However, especially if you live in the UK, we need to think about how we can use that space during the rest of the year.
Winter Socialising
As the days get colder, and the evenings get darker quickly, lots of people tend to prefer a night in. But this doesn’t mean that winter is a time to hibernate! There are festivities from Halloween, to bonfire night, to Christmas and New Year’s. This is a great time of year for people to hold parties and social gatherings to celebrate the holiday period. Having an additional room such as a conservatory is very convenient if you’d prefer to confine the socialising to one space in your home. What’s more, conservatories tend to have hard flooring. This may be wooden or tiled, and is another bonus as clearing up after the party will be much quicker with these ...
... easy-to-clean surfaces.
This doesn’t just apply to conservatories; orangeries are also ideal for hosting a social gathering. Their classical design provides a beautiful setting, day or night, for a celebration of some sort, and it’s also a great talking point.
Light Diffusion
Wintery days are often dark and dull, and this means our energy bills go up. But as conservatories and orangeries are predominantly made of glass, obviously they allow more light into the room. This is in some ways economical, as there is no need to keep more lights on during the day as the conservatory provides a well of natural light.
To further enhance this, you can also choose to install light diffusing glass, which ensures light is spread evenly across the whole room.
Heating
Many people are concerned about the impact that winter has on household bills. But this can be looked at even before the extension has been built. Many conservatory companies offer innovative, modern designs that are energy efficient. Speak to your design consultant to explore what options are available.
If you’re concerned about the cost of heating your conservatory or orangery, but find it far too cold without, then perhaps you could consider under floor heating? Not only does this warm up the area, you can also experience the warm sensation underfoot which is better than huddling up against a radiator!
So, as you can see, orangeries and conservatories don’t just have aesthetic benefits to enhance your home with, they are also practical extensions that you and your family can certainly enjoy all year round.
Breckenridge offers the most comprehensive choice of conservatory, contemporary extensions and contemporary conservatories in a choice of materials as well as a range of pool enclosures, summer houses and windows & doors.
