Chennai To Delhi - From The Gateway Of South To The Capital City

Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is also popularly referred to as the Gateway to the South, due to its unique geographical positioning. It is not only the seat of the Tamil Nadu government, but also a cultural hub and metropolis as well. Chennai, earlier known as Madras, has played a significant role in shaping the history of India. New Delhi, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the most historic city of the country from time immemorial. There are close to 30 flights connecting Chennai to Delhi on a daily basis. These are scheduled at different times of the day and hence a traveller can opt for a flight that suits his timings in the best way. Though easy and quickest, it is costly as well and so air travel is usually recommended for business travellers as well as for people who are in short of time.
The most popular mode of travel from Chennai to Delhi is by train and there are many trains that ply between both the places on a regular basis. Trains to Delhi can be boarded from any of the two stations in Chennai - Chennai Egmore (MS) and Chennai Central (MAS). These trains arrive at the New Delhi (NDLS) or H Nizamuddin (NZM) of Delhi. Some of the important trains connecting the two cities are Andaman Express (16031), Rajdhani Express (12433), Nzm Garib Rath (12611), Duronto Express (12269) and the Sampark Kranti express (12651) among others.
Online advance reservation of tickets is facilitated by Indian Railways. Advance booking of tickets is highly recommended, especially if one plans for travel from Chennai to Delhi during holidays, and while travelling with kids and senior citizens, for comfortable journey. As the distance between both the places is pretty high, travelling by road is not recommended.
