If you’re looking for a plumber in San Clemente, you’re not alone. The only problem is that there is a seemingly unending list of providers to choose from. So how do you go about selecting the right one? You don’t want to roll the dice on this one. You should educate yourself about the types of questions you should be asking before you let a plumber from any company actually set foot inside your home with the intent of doing work. Here are five questions you should ask before anyone comes over:

1. Do you have insurance? If so, how much insurance do you have? The problem with this first one is that many homeowners ask the first question and then skip the second one. Both of these questions are important because they will indicate to you if your home will be covered in the event of damaged caused by the company’s work. After all, you already have some kind of problem, and the only way you can be protected from the issue getting worse is if the company you call is insured for enough money to cover damages to your home that occur as a result of their work.

2. Are you licensed? In many areas it is illegal to ...
... hire a plumber or some other home service providers who are not licensed, so this is an important question too. Even if it isn’t illegal where you live, a plumber who has a license has at least demonstrated some knowledge the industry—enough knowledge to earn him a license to work in your area.

3. Do you often do (fill in the blank) work? You will definitely want a company that does plenty of jobs that are similar to what you have going on at your house. Some companies do a lot of clogs, while others do more complicated work like sewer repair. Others do both of these services and everything in between. The only way you can get an idea about how much they know about your particular type of job is to ask if they have much experience with it.

4. How do you charge? By the hour or by the job? It is always advisable to call a company that charges by the job rather than the hour. This is because flat rate jobs tend to get finished much more quickly because the plumber doesn’t need to waste time to get paid more. He is going to get paid the same amount of money no matter how long it takes, so you won’t have to put up with someone who is just charging up the clock to increase your bill.

5. Do you have at least five clients who would be willing to talk to me about their experiences with you? Referrals and testimonials speak louder than any words the company representative can say to you. If the company is not willing to let you speak to at least five pleased customers, then it is time to start getting suspicious. Is there a reason they don’t want you to speak with any of them?

Picking a plumber isn’t something you just leave up to chance. You should always ask educated questions so that the company representative is aware that you have done your homework and know what it takes to recognize a quality service provider. Then you will have peace of mind and also be aware of some of the common pitfalls involved in hiring a plumber.
