No matter what kind of business you run, web design is an important component. Even brick and mortar businesses should have a well-designed website. So why is it important to have a website?

Here are five reasons you can’t afford to skip website for small business:

Virtually anything can be sold online. Even if you think your products do not lend themselves to being sold online, you can rest assured that someone is selling them online somewhere.  Even vehicles can be purchased online these days.  If you need some ideas about how to sell your products online, look at your competitors to see what they are doing.
A website gives your customers an opportunity to learn more about your business. Even if you don’t want to actually sell your products online, having a website allows customers to learn about your business.  For example, if you have a restaurant, you can publish your menu and other details about your business to entice people to come in.
Your customers will take you more seriously. These days most people don’t take businesses seriously if they do not have a website.  ...

Your competitors have a website. Of course it isn’t always a good idea to do what others do just because they are doing it, but in the case of having an online presence, you can’t afford not to have a website.  Your competitors probably all have websites, which bring in business.  Do you think a customer is likely to go to you or to someone else who has a website.  They’ll probably pick the company with the website because they can learn more before they visit.
You’re losing out on customers. When people want to learn more about something before they buy, they often go online.  If your business isn’t there, then they’ll be looking at other sites to learn what they can.  If you don’t have a website, you’re virtually asking customers to go to your competitor who does have a website.

Of course there is one exception to this rule, and that’s if you have a poorly designed website.  Web design is one of the most important elements of having a successful website because if people can’t use your site, they’ll pass you over and go to a site that is more user-friendly. It is much better not to have a site if you can’t make one that looks professional.

Customers will not take you seriously if it looks like your website was designed by a five year old.  After all, the design of your website says a lot about your business.  If it’s shoddily put together, then people will assume that your business is also shoddily put together.
