Lately, the retro fashion of 60’s and 80’s eras is making a comeback, hence, you may find that pearls are seen almost everywhere. The classic earning or necklaces that you may receive from your mother or grandmother are now the latest trend in the jewellery market. Most of these timeless pearl items are made from akoya pearls. First originated in Japan, these pearls are also known as Japanese pearls. Akoya may be found usually from the akoya-gai oyster found in saltwater. One of the rare akoya types would be a set of 8 mm pearls earrings; these are also more expensive as compared to others. Another few beads that have a higher value are irregular shaped pearls, such as baroques or tear drops. Sizes for these pearls start at 2 millimeters and run to 11 millimeters and these are the smallest pearls produced in the world.

The shape itself is exceptional but another key feature is the color. These pearls are available usually in white or ivory color and sometimes with a hint of light pink, cream and grey shades. You may even find a black one in these. This color is obtained by irradiation or dyeing. Even though not a naturally found shade of pearl, these have excellent shine and luster.

Akoya beads are more than just pearls; they are used as evergreen items for gifting. For instance, you may present this for anniversary to your spouse or your daughter at graduation; these are something that would never go out of style. And the best part is that this match with most attire, so there is no need to worry about age and complexion.

These versatile beads are great even for matching with other jewelry pieces like diamonds and gold. So, go all out and get a fine akoya pearl necklace or earring that will last a lifetime.
