Cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms as well as cheap vacation packages help make travel affordable, but not necessarily the flights themselves enjoyable. By avoiding certain U.S. airports whenever possible that historically have more late or missed connections than others, your travel is less likely to be frustrating.

The following were the worst airports in 2011 to make connections through:

• Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport hasdslightly less than 79 percent of its flights land on time. Almost 20 percent of its departing flights took off late.

• Washington Dulles International Airport had over 21 percent of its flights run late, with over 20 percents of its departing flights delayed.

• Ronald Regan Washington National Airport had over 22 percent of its flights land late and close to 18 percent leave late.

• Philadelphia International Airport is the 12th busiest airport in the world and witnessed almost 24 percent of its flight arrivals delayed and 21 percent of its departures leave late.

• Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport had almost 25 ...
... percent of its arriving flights delayed and almost 26 percent of its departing flights leave behind schedule.

• John F. Kennedy International Airport arriving flights were delayed almost 25 percent of the time with almost 23 percent of its departures leaving late.

• Boston’s Logan International Airport had over 26 percent of its arriving flights come in late and experienced takeoff delays on over 21 percents of its departing flights.

• New York LaGuardia Airport had almost 28 percent of its flights arrive late and 22.5 percent of its departing flights delayed.
