Food Attracting Hotel Guests

Some people who like to travel via cheap fares, whether cheap airplane tickets, cheap auto rentals, or cheap vacation packages often decide where to stay based on the type of food offered on the hotel premises. Hotels have upped their food game in order to attract such guests by offering such things as artisanal picnic baskets, foraging tours, and lobby vending machine that sell Pinot Noir.

Food & Wine identified the followed hotels as appealing to food lovers:

• Revel in Atlantic City is a new resort and casino that offers 14 restaurants from well known East Coast chefs such as DC’s Michael Richard, Philadelphia’s Jose Garces, and NYC’s Marc Forgione.

• Hotel Indigo in Atlanta enables guests to purchase drinks from the midtown hotel’s self service Enomatic wine bar using their room keys.

• St. Regis in Bal Harbour, FL, circulates a mojito cart around the pool area serving minty drinks.

• Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore sports two restaurants by chef Michael Mina: Wit & Wisdom, an upscale tavern that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; and Pabu, a Japanese izakaya-style ...
... pub specializing in robata grilled foods.

• Public Hotel in Chicago houses the Pump Room restaurant which has a 1930’s supper club feel and serves small plates from superchef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The hotel’s lobby minibar sells local snacks including Garrett Popcorn and Cora Lee Candies.

• Hotel Modern in New Orleans has a lounge that features cocktails created by star mixologists from NOLA’s renowned bar Cure, including a fortified wine based drink poured over crushed ice.

• Andaz Wall Street hotel in New York City hosts a farmers’ market on its plaza where local farmers sell seasonal produce every Saturday and Wednesday from June through November.

• The Saguaro Hotel in Scottsdale, AZ, serves Mexican street food at Distrito and custom roast beans at its coffee bar.

• Four Seasons Resort in Nevis (in the Caribbean) ends many days with a beach barbecue. Its chef leads dives for spiny lobsters.

• Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens in Arenal, Costa Rica offers a vending machine in its lounge that comes with eight different vodkas in shot size pours.

• The NoMad hotel in New York City offers a menu focused on family-style dishes cooked over an open hearth. Its bar has unique creations such as “Hot Lips” which is a spicy drink made with pineapple, vanilla, mezcal, and jalapeno infused blanco tequila.

• Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York City offers such culinary delights as local artisan salumi, French radishes, rustic pizza Bianca, and thyme grilled quail.

• Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London offers unique dishes like “meat fruit” a chick liver disguised as a tangerine.

• Encantado hotel in Santa Fe, NM, serves Southwestern style farm to table food ranging from slow cooked and super indulgent suckling pig to a healthy barbecued salmon sandwich.
