The highly acclaimed play ‘Speed the Plow' by playwright David Mamet has found its way to Broadway again, twenty years after its first opening in the year 1988. The original play was showcased at the Lincoln Center at the Royal Theater on Broadway. The unforgettable cast then consisted of Joe Mantegna as Bobby Gould, Ron Silver as Charlie Fox and the gorgeous Madonna as Karen. It was thought that no other cast could recreate the magic the first set created, and therefore so many years passed without a rerun of the play. However, this time around, the new cast has struck beautifully with the audience, and recreated the spell of the original play. Director Neil Pepe has done justice to this play by choosing the apt cast to play the acclaimed characters in the play. Jeremy Piven as Bobby Gould, Raul Esparza as Charlie Fox and Elisabeth Moss as Karen are simply superb.

... anything involving physical activity, this play highlights the power and the dramatics of conversation, in the form of powerful dialogues and cut throat sarcasm. The dialogues have been beautifully woven into the piece, and are extremely reminiscent of the cokehead syndrome of the 80's. The story opens with Bobby Gould as the new production head of a movie house, and his friend and long time associate Charlie Fox bringing to him a perfect buddy movie with the current king of Hollywood, Douggie Brown in the lead. This idea is talked upon in detail by the two of them, who discuss the ideologies of how this can get them instant fame and money. They seem to be impressed by the idea of making this movie. Charlie is very happy. On Bobby's table lies another script of a rather apocalyptic novel by an ‘Eastern sissy writer', which they tend to overlook until Karen, his temp secretary for the day, arrives. Bobby slyly makes a bet with Charlie that he is going to sleep with his secretary that night and calls her over to report on the script he hands her. Karen's notes and review win Bobby over, and the next morning he gives a go ahead to the apocalyptic script. This, Charlie Fox does not appreciate and he accuses Karen of using sex as a weapon to make it into the movie industry. How the plot thickens and the climax is reached is unbelievable. The three characters only indulge in verbal banter, and yet they come out as sure shot winners. This showcase of effective dialogue between the both of them is marred when Karen comes into the picture, with her naïve appeal and earnest doggedness. The satirical humor and fire of insults from these foul mouthed executives work well with the plot and Elisabeth Moss as the naïve secretary displays immense acting talent.
