Dentistry is a demanding profession today. The approximate course fees that an MDS degree will cost can be from Rs 1 to Rs 3 lakhs per annum. Private institutions will charge much higher amounts naturally. Scholarships based on merit are given to students in dentistry.

The Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) degree programme is a five-year course, four years study and an one year of internship programme. The Dental Council of India registers qualified candidates to practice dentistry. Master degree programme is also offered in dentistry. Even aspirants can go for various certificate and diploma courses in the field.Continuous education is required in dentistry in order to be highly successful  in the field.

Companies who are into the production of oral care products like toothpaste, mouth freshner and gum care products recruit dentist professionals. Majority of them seek employment in dental departments, in hospitals, nursing homes, dental clinics and health departments. One can take up teaching also in any dental college in India. Other than that qualified dentist can open their own clinics in order to work with freedom.
