With the Hunter Valley being a little over a two hour's drive from Sydney, it is one of the most picturesque regions in Australia. Hunter Valley is not only known for its picturesque beauty but it is a synonymous of good wine. The region is one of Australia's best known wine regions. Located in the state of New South Wales, the region has played a pivotal role in the history of Australian wine as one of the first wine regions planted in the early 19th century. If you are on a tour to Sydney, then your tour would not be complete without valley wineries. The beautiful vineyards of the region are much popular among tourists and travelers that they specially visit here for vineyards tours. These vineyards produce high quality wine from myriad forms of grapes. Hunter Valley Semillon is considered the iconic wine of the region but other varieties of grapes are also used to produce quality wines.

Hunter valley region is a home to over 100 wineries ranging from famous labels to the more boutique wineries. The Hunter is renowned for its white wines, red wines and some others. An alcoholic beverage, wine is made after the ...
... fermentation of grapes for long years. Yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes and converts them into alcohol. Different varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts produce different types of wine. Semillon and Chardonnay among the white grapes are two exclusive varieties that are being used for high refine wines.

Semillon is a golden-skinned grape which is used to make dry and sweet white wines. The variety is broadly named as wine grape and covers 70% of the area of Hunter valley. The grape is rather heavy, with low acidity and oily texture. Semillon is produced dry with low alcohol levels of 10% or even less than that. This lower alcohol level is achieved, by picking the grapes slightly under ripe to help maintain acidity levels. Wines produced from Hunter Valley Semillon are considered to be the iconic wine of the region. The wine makers use Semillon with oak and honey to develop a long lasting nutty flavoured wine with complexity and depth.

Similarly, Hunter Valley Chardonnay is also popular among all. Chardonnay is a green – skinned grape used to make white wine. The grape variety is widely used for making champagne. The grape itself is very neutral in taste but is used in the same manner like Semillon is used for producing white wines. Hunter Valley Chardonnays are characterised by their soft texture, high alcohol and viscosity with peach flavour notes. Even after blending Chardonnay with other flavour, it keeps its aromatic richness.

Hunter Valley Semillon and Chardonnay are known for their exotic and inimitable taste. It would be hard to find a wine lover who had not tasted the Semillon and Chardonnay wine yet. If there is, then he must visit valley wineries and enjoy exotic wines over there.
