There are two main keys to a healthy lifestyle and an attractive body: diet and exercise. Don't tell me - you've heard this song before, right? That's right; we all have heard that diet and exercise are of key importance.

So is there anything new under the sun? Maybe not... But maybe you are reading this because your memory needs a little jarring, or just because you need a boost of energy and motivation, some inspiration, if you will, to get you back on track.

Maybe you were doing fine, eating moderately and trying to stay active. Maybe the Holidays or the winter months hit and you stopped being as active and ate more huge meals and junk. Perhaps you discovered a new favorite sandwich at your local restaurant or fast food joint, or a new pizza place that you just can't resist.

Whatever the reason for your recent increase in weight and decrease in body tone, there are solutions. Most solutions are right under your nose, so use common sense always.

As far as diet, remember the basics we all learned as children. Eat moderately from all the food groups. Moderately doesn't mean waking up ...
... in the middle of the night for leftovers or cookies. It means when you grocery shop, don't BUY the cookies. Buy fruit. Simple! Fruit digests better and is more nutritious.

If you must eat decadent treats look for those low in sugar or sugar free. You may have a prejudiced bias against these products because of a bad experience with diet soda. However, these products don't taste bitter like diet pop does, so please just give them a try.

Reduced fat or fat free dairy products are everywhere. Buy them. They taste almost exactly the same! Eat whole grains (such as wheat bread) and don't eat white flour based products. These are better for your waistline and for your heart, so make the change. You'll forget you even liked white bread products once you realize how flavorful whole grains are!

Use olive oil, eat fish, and eat dark leafy green vegetables. These all have nutrients called Essential Fatty Acids, or Omegas. They have been said to help prevent cancer and are much better for your body and staying in shape.

Taking vitamins is ok but not as an alternative to eating right. Your body will thank you if you just make some simple changes. Learn lots more and keep reading up on how to eat more healthily. Eventually it will just come naturally. You'll reach a point (like the one where ex-smokers hate the smell of smoke) where unhealthy food just doesn't even taste right anymore - it will even make you sick when you try it! You need to make the commitment to healthy eating and condition yourself to it. Eventually you'll lose your cravings for the bad stuff!

And finally remember the big buzz about moderation. It's not a trend; it is tradition being brought to the modern cultural forefront of late. Moderate, moderate, moderate! If it's been said a million times before, it will be said a million times more. Too much of anything is a bad thing (even things that are otherwise good for you). If you choose to indulge once in a while, make sure it really is only once in a while and that you don't overdo it.
