One Ford – New Ranger

Ford has developed this new Ranger ‘One Ford’ global manufacturing plan. This means an end to separate American and international versions of the Ranger. Ford has replaced them with one car which will be sold in 180 global markets. It will be designed and developed mostly in Australia, will be assembled in Thailand, Argentina and South Africa. There are three versions available in this new Ranger; Ranger Cab, Double Cab and Super Cab. The Regular Cab has the most carrying capacity, with a 2.3m-long load bay and can carry up to 1800 litres of cargo and weighs just over 1.3 tones. The best car is however, the Double Cab Wildtrak. Ford has made the Ranger’s frame longer and wider than before and it has been fitted with sound insulation in the doors, roof and underbody. It has also been given double door seals for better wind insulation.

Ranger is a very safe car as it is the first pick-up to score a five-star EuroNCAP test rating. The power train for the Ranger comes from a choice of either a 2.2-litre four-cylinder or 3.2-litre five cylinder turbo diesel engines. Inside the Ranger its ...
... cabin seems familiar and is a quite pleasant place. The inside is designed in such a way that it strikes a balance between durability and functionality. The fixtures and fittings are built solidly and are of a sensible size. Ranger has lots of passenger space and it is practical as well. Even the rear cushions lift up to reveal a large storage box.

You can carry as much as you will carry in a large estate or SUV. The 3.2 litre has easy pulling power as it has been designed to deliver, and that it achieves very well. Torque peaks at 347lb ft, but 300lb ft is on offer between 1300rpm and 3300rpm. It is fast but not very fast, however it does achieve a sub 11 sec 0-60mph time. The handling is sublime on the Ranger and in fact is better than one or two passenger cars, the Land Rover Defender being one. It’s a commercial vehicle so business owners can claim the VAT back but the fuel economy if only 28mpg which will make it an expensive car to run. Ford is expecting to sell 5000 Rangers in the UK every year. This can only be possible once the supply chain problems affecting the earlier cars are solved. The new Ranger is available now from £14753.
