This morning I did not want to get out of bed. Autumn is upon us, the daytime temperature is averaging mid-50 to mid-60’s this week and at 6:00AM I like to be dry, warm and snuggly in bed. My alarm clock jealously forces me to face the darkness and wet street displayed through my window and I am forced to get ready for work. I miss summer already.

Like most New Yorkers I take the subway to work. This sometimes unpredictable system connects the boroughs together and enables us to live and work in different parts of NYC. The subway also happens to be an amusing form of entertainment in the morning rush hour as seats become available in the cattle cars. Innocent bags and umbrellas quickly become menacing weapons; smiles become snarls; failed runs to seats become “I was only walking this way” strolls; courtesy slowly dies. I squeeze into a corner, put my headphones on, close my eyes and dream of personal space during the hour to hour and a half trip taking me to the financial district from Queens.
