payment taken online by a credit or debit card processing supplier. Is it

safe to ship the goods at this point?

Do you trust the customer and the credit card processor? Do you have

anything to lose?

Unfortunately either can begin a chargeback and depending on the domicile of the customer or the financial institutions in between it's difficult to be confident they are going to act

fair.

Recently I had a payment chargeback siz months after I took payment. Up until that

point I had thought that thirty days was the maximum allowed but the card processor told

me a payment could be reversed for up to 36 months in some areas.

I am pleased that in my business payments are small and a

reversal is not difficult to contend with.

What happens if a customer were to do a chargeback for a high cost

capital product that cost thousands? I investigated this by

find this is not unusual, one Paypal user having lost thousands of dollars in a

reversal ninety days after the sale.

This is a a flaw exploited in many countries and it would be wise to

check the rules in the location you intend to ship to. Using escrow services to

handle the financial process may provide some guarantee.
