Estimator jobs are very important to the construction industry; estimators are responsible for working out quotes which their employers will then use to make proposals when they tender for work. Employers need to ensure that any proposal they make will offer them a good return for their investment and without the aid of a good estimator this would simply not be possible, which is why estimator jobs are so well paid and why there is so much competition for them.

Training

Not only do estimator jobs involve calculating costs but an estimator may also be expected to negotiate contracts and work out the number of employees a construction company will require to complete a job on time and in as cost effective manner as possible. This usually involves working with a senior estimator who will guide you through the role as you assist them in the job.

Once you have experience of the role, you can go on to choose a specialist field or you could continue in your current role as a senior estimator with better pay and more interesting work to focus on – it really is up to you.
