Baby Free “quiet Zone” On Planes

While cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages are great ways to travel, flying can become stressful if you are seated next to a baby that cries and/or screams during much of a flight.

To address this problem, AirAsia, a low cost airline in Southeast Asia with hubs in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, will start offering what it is calling a “Quiet Zone” on its long distance flights starting in February of 2013.

The first seven economy class rows on such flights will be reserved exclusively for passengers age 12 and above. No additional fee will be charged to sit in this section, except already existing fees for select seats that offer additional legroom.

AirAsia said that they have decided to create baby free quiet zones so that its passengers can enjoy peace and quiet and thus a more pleasant journey.

The airline has noted though that it may allow select passengers under the age of 12 to sit in the Quite Zone when “necessary for operational, safety or security reasons.”

... States that it is unlikely to be instituted by domestic airlines. Though sitting in such a zone is likely to reduce noise, travelers in the special section cannot be guaranteed a quiet flight.

AirAsia is the second airline in Southeast Asia to create a no child zone on some of its flights. Malaysia Airlines announced in April that it would stop allowing families with children to sit in the upper deck of its Airbus A380-800 flying the Kuala Lumpur to London route.
