As far as Chevrolet cars go, the Chevy Malibu goes way back. In fact, it's one of North America's longest running nameplates. Over the years, the Chevrolet Malibu has undergone several makeovers. The 2013 Malibu represents the latest one.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes is the platform on which the Chevrolet Malibu is built. It's now built on the Epsilon II platform just as the Buick Regal is. This means that the new Malibu has a longer wheelbase and is wider than before. Starting from the ground up, you'll find a redesigned chassis complete with a multi-link rear suspension and MacPherson struts.

Overall, the exterior has been redesigned for aerodynamics and improved fuel efficiency. It has a swept-back look to it and blockers incorporated into the grille to aid in reducing drag. A new, double-tiered grille gives the Malibu a distinctive look. In the rear, a trunk spoiler and a new taillight treatment immediately catch your eye. Twin tail lamps, and LED tail lamps (on the Malibu LTZ only), give the rear an almost Camaro-like look.

Inside, the wider body yields to more interior space, particularly more ...
... shoulder and hip room. Passengers in the rear will appreciate the extra room as well. The Malibu is also equipped with Chevrolet MyLink, a touchscreen system that controls the car's audio system.

Three different engines are available for the new Chevrolet Malibu:
Standard 2.5 litre EcoTec I4 engine – 197 hp
2.0 litre Turbocharged EcoTec - 259 hp
2.4 litre eAssist 4 cylinder

The eAssist engine is a type of hybrid engine that blends a twin cam engine with a motor and air-cooled lithium battery. Regenerative braking charges the battery while a power assist provides extra oomph when accelerating. When decelerating, and when coming to a rest, the fuel shutoff kicks in. All of these work together to reduce fuel consumption.

Like most Chevrolet cars, the new Malibu comes in several trim levels: Malibu LS, Malibu 1LT, Malibu 2LT, Malibu Eco 1LT, Malibu Eco 2LT, and Malibu LTZ. The base model, the LS, is reasonably equipped with standard features such as a six speed automatic transmission, six speaker sound system, Stabilitrak traction control, front bucket seats, 16" aluminum wheels, Bluetooth, six months of OnStar, and more. It starts at $24,125 (MSRP).
If you want increased power, more luxurious options, and the thrill of a turbocharged, 259 horsepower motor, go for the top-of-the-line Malibu, the Turbo LTZ. This model comes with 18" 10-spoke alloy wheels, leather seats, and all the goodies.

All of these Chevrolet vehicles come standard with advanced safety systems such as front and side impact airbags, airbag occupancy sensors, ABS and driveline traction control, side impact beams, daytime running lights, and more. Chevrolet cars, and the Malibu in particular, have a long history in North America. The new 2013 Malibu's makeover remains true to its legacy while putting the car on a new path.
