Ceiling fans, as the name suggests are nothing more than electrical fans which are hung on ceilings and may or may not have lights. Ceiling fans save space and are preferred by many to stand fans which take up a lot of floor space. The main purpose of a ceiling fan is to circulate air throughout the room which makes the room a lot many degrees cooler than it would be without air circulation. In tropical climates, very rarely do you find homes without ceiling fans.

Although air conditioners do the job of making the room cooler, the utility bill can be prohibitive and a ceiling fan also saves more energy than them. The savings in utility bills is nothing to be sneezed at and a ceiling fan is sufficient for those slightly cooler months of spring and fall. Even above the dining table, this is a useful device as the moving air dissuades pests and insects.

The original idea of the ceiling fan came way back in 1886 when the Nutone Bath Fans were devised by the father and son pair and were powered with water. Then in 1903, the Hunter ceiling fans Company was incorporated into the Emerson Electric Co and since then there ...
... has been a constant evolution of designs and styles in ceiling fans. The options are tremendous and you can choose from airplane fans, rustic fans or tropical fans. You can choose a flush mount or a hanging one but ensure that the ceiling fan has reversible speed control as this will give you many ventilation choices. You can move as much or as little air as you want. Some ceiling fans even come with heaters. Some come with three blades while others four or even five and a few have remote controls.

When choosing the fans for your ceiling, consider the size of the room and the height of the room. The design and speed of the fan determines how well it will work in the room. It is always better to opt for a good design because it will give you a quieter fan and also improved performance. It is a good idea to check whether spare parts are easily available for the model chosen as otherwise it will get problematic if problems arise. Like every good thing, better functioning ceiling fans come at a higher price but then you get what you pay for!
