It is without a doubt that most teens as well as adults will experience acne on either the forehead, back or the cheeks before anywhere else. However these are not the only places where the acne can occur. Acne has been found pretty much anywhere on the body you can image albeit in much lesser quantities.

Next to facial or back acne the other common locations you will find pimples crop their ugly head is the butt, legs and arms. The reason for this is the same as any other type of acne. The legs and the arms are full of tiny little glands which secrete oil to keep the skin moist and lubricated. However at times, these glands become plugged with particles of dirt, old skin cells, etc which prevent these sebaceous glands from performing their function properly. This blockage eventually gets infected with bacteria cells and leads to the formation of zits and pimples.

People most affected butt acne, leg or arm acne tend to be young athletes who wear tight clothing to increase performance, such as runners ...
... wearing tight clothing to cut down on friction. However, this tight clothing traps sweat and dirt closely against the skin causing the glands to become irritated and break out. In addition to acne on the arms, another condition which resembles acne is known as keratosis pilaris which is essentially a build up of protein near the opening of the hair follicles. The good news with keratosis Pilaris is that no treatment is required; it can simply be rubbed of with a loofah sponge.

If you suffer arm acne, or any type of acne for that matter, it is important to note that acne can be treated safely, effectively and relatively inexpensively. There are numerous creams and gels on the market which contain skin exfoliating agents such as Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid and are quite effective against treating minor to moderate and even advanced stages of pimples. While most of these treatments are available of the counter, it is usually a good idea to consult with your physician to get the right advice.

In addition to using the various over the counter acne treatments, the other things you can do to fight acne is to consume plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated so that it does not dry out and plug up the skin pores. And of course, a healthy dose of fruits and vegetables per day will also do wonders not only for treating arm acne, but for your entire skin. Last but not least, any regimen you try, give it some time to work. Do not give up on it too quickly.
