It was after the spectacular success of ‘Palace on Wheels’ that such trains were also conceived for other parts of India. It was then, that Maharastra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) came up with the idea of a luxury train, far surpassing other Indian luxury trains in opulence and comfort, traversing through the very best of Central Western part of India.

Finally after a lot of hard work, and a long wait, this blue limousine rolled on its wheels from the iconic Chaatarpati Shivaji Terminal, Mumbai, on the dawn of 16th January, 2004. Soon, this courageous initiative to expand luxury trains to other parts of India was joined by the prestigious Taj group of hotels, who offered a 5 star hotel facility on-board to the guests.
The destinations on the route of this train were carefully chosen to make sure that the guests on-board can witness the rich diversity of flora and fauna of Maharastra, all the important historical places, the vividness of the landscapes, and have a peep into the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Day 7: Ajanta-Nashik
Day 8: Mumbai
The complete journey will introduce its guests to the rich diversity of inherited cultural traditions in India, and the multiplicity of faiths practiced in India. While Goa is majority Christian, Kolhapur majority Hindu, Ajanta is famous for its Buddhist caves, Aurangabad has a significant Muslim population and Mumbai is home not just to Hindus and Muslims, but also to Christians, Buddhists and Parsis.

The train also has a beautifully decorated sitting lounge, where fellow travelers can sit and chat, and make new friends.
