Dharamshala is one hill station that has gained popularity amongst enthusiastic tourists, especially across North India. Dharamshala has flourished as a quiet and popular health resort after its reconstruction. Dharamshala is located at 17kms north east of Kangra town, which is another beautiful town in Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala is known for its natural beauty among the locals and the tourists who visit the small hill town to get a break from their hectic life.

Dharamshala came to be known as the little Lhasa after it became the temporary headquarters for his holiness Dalai Lama in the 1960. A quiet hill resort nestled amongst hoards of Conifers and Oak trees; Dharamshala serves as the perfect weekend getaway. Dharamshala has a number of tourist places just a few miles away and has a number of activity options in the town itself. One can make an early morning start for a trek to see the snow line. You would have to see this place from your eyes to believe in the beauty that it beholds. The town is covered with snow capped mountains on two sides, giving a breathtaking view that you would expect from any hill station.

There are a number of tourist places you can visit during your stay at Dharamshala that include the Kangra Art Museum, Kotwali Bazaar, Kunal Pathri temple and the War museum. On the way to the Kunal Pathri temple you can also visit the beautiful tea gardens. Dharamshala also has an international cricket stadium facing the Dauladhar range. The stadium hosts various international and domestic cricket matches. Other places that you can visit during your stay at the hill resort are Bhagsunag falls, Dal Lake, Jawalmukh, Dharmkot, Triund, Kareri and Baijavnath Shiv Temple, all of which are just a few miles from Dharamshala.

The temperature is pleasant all throughout the year as you would expect from any hill station. You may require light woollens during the summers and warmer ones during the winters when the temperature drops to zero degree Celsius. The best time to visit this hill resort is from January to June and September to December.

Dharmshala is easily accessible through all major modes of transport. Dharamshala has no airport in the town itself but the nearest airport is just 14km away in Gaggal. Gaggal and Dharamshala are well connected by road. There is a narrow gauge railway line to Kangra from Pathankot. Kangra is just 17km away from Dharamshala. The best way to reach Dharamshala is perhaps by road while enjoying the serene natural beauty of Himachal on the way. Dharamshala is well connected with regular bus services from all major cities including Delhi, Chandigarh and Shimla.
