2012 MINI Roadster – A Car For Hot Summer Days And Cold Ones Too
The cold and wet weather we have these days and with winter around the corner, perhaps this isn’t the best time to get a roadster but the MINI roadster offers a ray of sunshine in this gloomy weather. Its agile handling and a cheeky character makes a perfect recipe for a roadster which one will be happy to drive about in this wet and windy weather.
You can upgrade the standard Cooper S Roadster to the range topping John Cooper Works model at a cost of £1,865. This adds 17-inch alloy wheels and JCW aerodynamic Kit. It included some branded door guards and a massive chin spoiler. But the best feature is the Sport button; push the button and the steering becomes a little bit heavier. This in return makes the exhaust burp and noise is amazing and loud and it sounds even better if the roof is dropped. The top can be dropped in around 10seconds buy pressing a toggle switch. This Mini Roadster doesn’t compromise on performance either. Its 181bhp 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine offers more than enough ways to get wind ruffling your hair.
The engines ...
... come in three variants and there are also three MINI trim levels for sale. The standard MINI Cooper Roadster has a 1.6 litre four that gives 121bhp. The Cooper S Roadster has an inline four 1.6 litre petrol engine which gives 181bhp. Then there is the top of the range John Cooper Works model increases the output to 208bhp. It comes equipped with a start/stop function and the Roadster automatically hibernates when the car is not moving and turns it back on when you step on the clutch.
If one is familiar with the MINI convertible they will feel that this roadster feels the same under the bonnet with two less seats. The boot space is impressive with 240 litres of it at your disposal. Driving an open top is surely fun on a blazing hot day but it is always freezing on a cold day. Roadsters are noisier than a hard-top car. Your rear view is also hampered by the wind deflector and pop-up rear wing. Nevertheless, the new Mini Roadster is great fun especially when the sun comes out and the top is dropped. The price for this new entry level MINI Roadster is £20,905 and is available now. The CO2 emissions figure is 139g/km and it gives 32.3mpg.
