Plastic Surgery Among Men Gaining Popularity
Plastic surgery among men is not often considered to be as popular as it is among women. Traditionally, men are believed to feel naturally confident about their physiques while women are thought to struggle more profoundly with body image.
Men do tend to be more naturally lean, while women gain weight more easily and find it challenging to maintain weight loss. Some of these realities are genetically based, with women needing to gain weight in order to bear children. Women’s metabolisms are believed to slow down earlier on in life as well with changes to their hormones making them particularly vulnerable to weight gain during menopause.
Perception and reality, however, are two different things. More and more men are declaring dissatisfaction with their physiques and opting to do something about it. Reports suggest that since 2000, there has been a more than 90% increase in the number of men seeking cosmetic procedures. Doctors suggest that the change reflects men’s desires to improve their looks.
While many patients favour procedures such as Botox injections, microdermabrasion and laser hair removal, ...
... Male Breast Reduction is also very popular. Male Breast Reduction offers men a way to safely remove or contour breast tissue. The surgery is designed to treat a condition known as gynecomastia which occurs in 40 to 60% of men and causes breast tissue to overdevelop. The procedure has been known to help men regain confidence in their appearance as they end up with flatter, firmer and better contoured chests.
Overall, reports suggest the number of cosmetic procedures performed has increased about 200% since 1997. In 2011, more than 9 million procedures were performed in the United States. Of that total, men had about 800,000 procedures or 9% of the total. This represents about a 120% increase among men since 1997. Male Breast Reduction is one of many popular plastic surgery procedures. The top five most common surgical procedures among men include liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, Male Breast Reduction and facelift.
Reports reveal that in the United States in 2011, Americans spent about $10 million on cosmetic procedures. About $6 billion of that total was spent on surgical procedures; $2 billion on injectable procedures and about $2 billion on skin rejuvenation procedures.
Tens of thousands of Male Breast Reduction surgeries are performed in North America each year.
