Sanmar Shipping: Safe Working Environment

Shipping has been one of the most used modes of transport globally for oil, chemicals, bulk and containerized cargo. Transport of goods and people by sea generates the least emission of Greenhouse Gases per ton-mile haulage compared with road, train or air transport.
The shipping industry is a highly regulated industry with stringent compliance requirements as regards to Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
Sanmar Shipping Limited, part of The Sanmar Group, operates vessels in three business sectors- oil, chemical and bulk cargo. We operate our vessels in a Global environment and hence have a very dynamic challenge to be a responsible operator.
At Sanmar Shipping, we reaffirm our group commitment and policies to demonstrate responsibilities to the environment and the society at large. We also believe that we need to operate and run our ships and business keeping our primary focus on ensuring that we contribute significantly to the environment and not compromise our future generations on the sustainability of their needs.
All Sanmar ships are run under very strict safe working norms, with regular ...
... monitoring and capturing of near misses and potential hazardous work environments. Considering the very challenging environment in which the ships are operated, a comprehensive risk analysis precedes every critical activity. Regular safety committee meetings, permits to work and monitoring of the works ensure that safety is given paramount importance in all aspects of ship operation.
The operation of the ships is governed by the regulatory requirements the International Safety Management standards, periodic inspection by the customer representatives like oil major vetting inspectors, Right ship inspectors, Flag State Inspectors, Port State Control Inspectors and the companies own technical and operational staff inspection.
In addition, the vessels are periodically taken off commercial trading and completely overhauled to reinstate the condition of the structure and equipment to satisfactory condition. This lay-up is monitored and certified for by the Flag Administration and Classification Societies.
Further, all our tankers are monitored against the Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) requirements, which is basically a self-assessment criteria developed by recognised competent authorities. The TMSA guidelines provide for the framework to continually improve on the operation of the vessels keeping the prime focus on Health, Safety, Environmental and Social issues.
