Physical Therapy Chiropractic For Lower Back Pain
It is surprising to know that over 80% of the population tends to suffer from some form of Lower back pain at some point in their lives! Most cases of lower back pain can be linked to a general cause, like a muscle strain, injury or overuse or it can be attributed to a specific diagnosed condition of the spine. The most common spine related conditions that cause lower back pain in most people are:
• Herniated Disc
• Degenerative Disc Disease
• Sypondylolisthesis
• Spinal Stenosis
• Osteoarthritis
While less common than the above mentioned conditions, a number of other conditions can cause low back pain as well, like sacroiliac joint dysfunction, fibromyalgia, spinal tumours and piriformis syndrome. Since most episodes of lower back pain are self-limited, therefore, it is often advisable for patients to employ back care on their own to tackle the problem of lower back pain early. In most of the cases, a short course of rest, limited to one to two days, pain medication, such as NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen) and/or acetaminophen, ...
... application of ice and/or heat on the lower back to decrease inflammation. Physical therapy chiropractic treatment is advised to patients suffering from acute back pain.
If your lower back pain symptoms do not start to abate within one to two weeks, medical attention should be sought either from your primary care doctor or chiropractor. The assessment of the patient’s condition begins with a history of the patient’s lower back pain. To get a clear idea about the problem the chiropractor asks questions such as:
• The patient experiences back pain in which part?
• Does he feel more low back pain or more leg pain?
• How long have the symptoms of pain been present?
• Does anything make the lower back pain better or worse?
• What all back pain care has the patient already tried?
• Have there been some other episodes of lower back pain, ever?
A physical exam is done to assess the patient’s nerve function and motion in the lower back. Sometimes diagnostic studies, like an x-ray are recommended to better assess the anatomy of the patient’s spine and determine the specific type of back care. Considering the information obtained from the patient’s history, physical exam, and diagnostic studies, the chiropractor will then suggest physical therapy to the patient. One of the keys to manage the symptoms of back pain or neck pain is to actively engage the muscles of these areas into rehabilitation and exercise. Physical therapy helps in placing the patients on the right track by focusing mainly on exercising weak points and regaining strength of the muscles that may have been lost.
To deal better with the symptoms of Spinal cord injury, the experts of Physical therapy chiropractic design an exercise program that is tailored to the individual’s condition and pain level. They include a combination of stretching, strengthening and aerobic conditioning in the exercise routine of their patients. Doing the right exercises under professional trainers can be the difference between recovery and chronic pain. In general, the goals of back pain exercises as well as physical therapy chiropractic are to decrease back pain, increase function, and provide education on maintaining the health of the spine to prevent further recurrences of the lower back aches.
