Mists of Pandaria is right around the corner, and many players have already pre-ordered it. Most players already know that the Monk will be the newest class that is being added into the game when Blizzard's newest expansion goes live on September 25th. The last class that was added was the Death Knight, which was a hero class that started the game at level 55. Unfortunately, Monks are not a hero class and will not be starting at level 55, but they bring a whole new style of gameplay to Azeroth that is expected to be enjoyed by many players.

Dps, Tank, or Healer?

Monks will be able to play three different roles in groups -- a Dps, tank, or a healer. This was pretty much expected just because of the type of class that Monks are. However, they differ from other tanks, Dps, and healers in their style of gameplay that we are going to get a little more into.

Dps

As a Dps role, monks are a melee class that focuses on using different "Kung Fu" style moves to beat their enemies into submission. These melee attacks that the Monk uses build up "Chi", which can be used to complete some of their more advanced ...
... moves. Chi works very similar to the warrior's fury, or the demonology warlock's demonic fury.

Healer

As a healer, Monks still use a "Kung Fu' style, but it is used to heal allies rather than to kill enemies. For example, one of the Monk's healing abilities will be to punch the air in front of it, creating a wave of healing that will heal allies in front of it. Monk healers will also use Chi to use some of their more powerful healing abilities, which will once again be built up by the moves that they use beforehand.

Tanks

Finally, the tanking specialization works very similar to both of the previous ones. However, the Monk uses its "Kung Fu" moves to build up defenses against oncoming enemies and to pull threat to itself. Chi will allow it to use some of its best abilities, which will be a vital asset during difficult boss fights and hard phases of raids.

Conclusion

Blizzard has made the Monk a more enjoyable class by giving it the ability to play all three roles. This will surely bring a large amount of players to try out the Monk class upon the expansion's release.
