Bangalore has natural parks, architectural landmarks, flowering trees, shrines, lakes, research institutions and shopping malls to attract the tourists. Bangalore is now a major exporter of information technology. This has earned the city the nickname ‘Silicon Valley of India’.

Bangalore Palace and Tipu Sultan Palace are the main attractions in Bangalore. The city has some natural lakes like Hasaraghhatta, Hebbal and Ulsoor. Other attractions in Bangalore include St. Mary’s Church, Dargah Hazarath Tawakkal, Jumma Masjid, Vidhan Soudha (where Karnataka legislature is situated), Lalbaugh, Cubbon Park, Ashoka Pillar, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Film City and the prestigious Indian Institute of Science.

Wayanad, ‘land of spicy hills’, is situated about 289 km from Bangalore. Situated on the southern tip of the Deccan Plateau, Wayanad is Kerala is nestled among the mountains of Western Ghats. This hill station has deep valleys, plantations, waterfalls, rugged terrain, shrines, forests and wildlife.

... like Ooty, Coonoor, Mysore and Bangalore are located near this region. Wayanad hills are adjacent to the sanctuaries in Madumalai in Tamil Nadu and Bandipur in Karnataka. This stretch is famous for wildlife.

Star attraction here is Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 1973, it is rich in biodiversity and is home to many endangered species of flora and fauna. This sanctuary is an integral part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. There is another Wildlife Sanctuary at Muthanga. North Wayanad has a sanctuary exclusively for preservation of birds.

Wayanad has waterfalls at Chethalayam, Meenmuty and Soochippara. Edakkal caves have become popular among tourists. Temple at Tirunelli attracts large number of pilgrims. Pookote Lake is popular among travellers. There is boating facility in the lake.

Among other popular destinations are Pazhassi Raja Museum, Kuruva Islands, Karappuzha Dam, Tiger Valley and Chembra Hills. Misty environs of hill station offer a wide range of trekking opportunities and visits to plantations.

The best way to travel from Bangalore to Wayanad is by road. There is no airport or railway station in Wayanad. The tourists travelling from Bangalore to Wayanad by air or by rail will have to reach Kozhikode first and then travel to Wayanad by road. Train journey from Bangalore will take about ten hours. Journey by air and rail will be both time consuming and uneconomical.

Bus journey from Bangalore to Wayanad will take about six hours. Private and state transport buses are available at regularly intervals from Bangalore. The route passes through Bolare, Bannur, Mysore, Beguar and Sultan Batheri. The taxi car journey takes about 5 hours to reach Wayanad. Taxi fares range from Rs.14 to Rs.45 per kilometre depending on vehicles the travellers use. There are several dhabas, restaurants, ATMs and petrol pumps on this route.
