Kenya is synonymous with safari. This destination offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. In Kenya it’s possible to see Elephants, Lions, Rhinos, Buffalos, and Leopards – a group known as the ‘big five’. Holiday packages can cater to every kind of traveler, from couples to families. But it’s important to recognize that this country offers more than animal-watching. With a range of different climates, visitors also enjoy beautiful beaches, colorful cities, snow-capped peaks, and local and indigenous cultures.

Kenya, a leading African tourist destination

Think of Kenya and you’ll probably think of wildlife. This country is, after all, a leading safari destination. Travelers visit hoping to see what’s known as the ‘big five’ – Elephants, Lions, Rhinos, Buffalos, and Leopards. Kenya holiday packages generally focus on exciting animal watching adventure, and the best time to observe the natural world is the dry, hot season between February and March. But there is plenty to see and do year-round, and holiday makers of all kinds can enjoy a trip to this exotic East African nation. Kenya ...
... is where you’ll find rugged landscapes, diverse wildlife, and beautiful open plains. Best of all, Africa tours - and Kenya holiday packages in particular - are very flexible. It is possible to choose from self-driven and guided tours. There are even luxury safari possibilities, for those who enjoy extra comfort. This country was named after Mount Kenya, a major landmark in a nation so rich in natural beauty. Along its Indian Ocean coastline, the country has a warm and humid climate, but as you move towards the capital, Nairobi, this changes to the famous savannah grasslands. Nairobi itself is much cooler, and Mount Kenya has snowy peaks throughout the year. So, while Kenya is a leading African tourist destination, known for its action-packed safaris, it is equally loved for its beaches, mountains, and cultural tours.

National parks in Kenya

The Masai Mara offers vast plains and what is probably the most awe-inspiring wildlife experience. Tours taking in this National Reserve in south-western Kenya introduce visitors to a lively population of Zebras, Lions, and Cheetahs. The park is open from January to December, but between July and October species of all kinds make what is known as the Great Migration. The area takes its name from the local Masai people, and it’s possible for travelers to meet these traditional inhabitants, whose colorful culture is an incredible thing to experience. Lake Nakuru is another popular site – this is where you can see Flamingos, and it’s a great spot for big game viewing. The Samburu National Reserve is known for exquisite landscapes. Visitors can explore 104 square kilometers of forests, plains, swamps, and grasslands. Wildlife here includes Giraffes, Crocodiles, and Buffalos, alongside many different bird species.

It’s important to note that Kenya is a family friendly destination, and holiday packages offer a wide variety of choice. It’s possible to choose overland, child-safe safaris and even beach resort vacations.
