In some ways, digital satellite TV is similar to the traditional broadcast televison you are used to - it also sends data right into your home using air waves, not radio waves. The difference lies in the way the information is received and sent. In digital satellite TV, everything goes through satellite dishes (not traditional TV aerials). Information is transmitted and received from the satellites that orbit the earth. The result? You get clearer direct signal.

How receive digital satellite TV

To be able to get digital satellite TV, you will need several euipment, including a digibox and a minidish. The satellite signals get compressed before they are transmitted so that your box is able to decode them. The box therefore acts as both a decoder and receiver and decoder.

Some digital satellite TV providers have already bundled these gadgets into their service packages, but some may require you to purchase them at extra cost. Some digital satellite TV providers also let you buy their equipment even if you do not wish to avail of their service. Beware, however, as they may charge you higher installation ...
... cost.

Choosing a digital satellite TV service provider

There are several things you should look at before you sign up with any digital satellite TV provider.

Cost of installation. First, look at installation cost. Because of competition, many digital satellite TV providers now install for free - so take advantage of this freebie if you can. Be sure to read the fine print, or the company can be fooling you into thinking it is ‘free' only to slap you with extra charges after a few months of subscription.

Customer service. Look for digital satellite TV providers who give free maintenance and repair service. You should not have to pay for repairs due to unit malfunctions, due to heavy rains and other such natural conditions, and even due to overuse. Again, read the fine print. Also try to call their customer service hotline before you sign up.

Someone should be ready to answer your questions 24/7. If the phone is not picked up after a minute or so, ditch that digital satellite TV provider and move on to another. That only means that they do not have enough customer service personnel to handle all their clients - or worse, that too many clients are calling because the service is problematic.
